Help Your Child Succeed with Comprehensive Eye Care
Did you know that 80% of learning is visual?
Children are often unaware of issues with their vision simply because they don’t have the same frame of reference that us adults have. While the whiteboard may appear blurry, your child might think this is “normal” because they have nothing to compare to.
Regular eye exams are crucial for your child’s vision and ocular health. Most school screenings lack the comprehensive eye exam needed to properly diagnose vision issues, leaving many children at risk of falling through the cracks.

How Often Should My Child Get an Eye Exam?
The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends children have their first eye exam between the ages of 6 and 9 months old. They should also have at least one more exam between the ages of 2 and 5 years old.
Once your child starts attending school, they need an eye exam every year.
What’s The Deal with Children’s Eye Exams?
A comprehensive eye exam will focus on 3 primary areas: eye health, eyesight, and binocular vision. Your optometrist can adjust your child’s tests based on their communication needs to properly assess their vision and ocular health.
Eye Health
Your child’s eye exam will evaluate the physical structures of their eyes. We can detect signs of disease and begin treatment early to protect their vision for years to come.
Eyesight
Your child’s eyesight refers to their ability to see clearly at varying distances and gather visual information. These tests help us determine your child’s prescription, if needed.
Vision
Your child’s vision refers to their ability to process, interpret, and react to the visual information they gather with their eyesight. Evaluating your child’s vision involves their entire visual system to look for signs of amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (cross eyes), and other issues.
Some children are misdiagnosed with behavioural issues when they actually have a visual system issue. We can detect signs of vision issues early and provide personalized treatment to help your child see clearly and comfortably.
Protect Their Vision with Myopia Control
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a condition that alters the way light refracts in the eye. As a result, a child with myopia can’t see far-away objects very clearly. Without treatment, myopia gets worse as the child gets older.
Through a process called myopia control, we can slow the progression of myopia. As a result, your child may maintain more of their distance vision than they would otherwise.
