Your Eyes Are the Windows to Your Health

Your eyes are the windows to your health. Many eye diseases and conditions can develop without showing symptoms. By the time you notice changes in your vision, starting treatment may be less effective.

We focus on eye disease so you don’t have to.

With proper eye disease diagnosis and management, you and your family can have clear, comfortable vision. You can trust your family’s eye health is in good hands as we take a proactive approach to eye exams and care.

What Do We Look For?

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is sometimes called “the silent thief of sight.” It may not be apparent that you have glaucoma until you notice changes in your vision. Glaucoma is associated with high pressure inside the eye which can lead to progressive loss of your peripheral or side vision if left untreated.

The signs and symptoms of glaucoma can include:

  • Patchy blind spots
  • Tunnel vision
  • Severe headaches
  • Eye pain
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Blurred vision
  • Halos around lights

A cataract develops in the lens of your eye. This lens is naturally clear, but cataracts cause it to become foggy which can impact the quality of your vision.

Fortunately, cataracts are very treatable. We use a variety of diagnostic tools to help identify early signs of cataracts and monitor them as they progress.

The signs and symptoms of cataracts can include:

  • Blurry or foggy vision
  • Reduced night vision
  • Glare or halos around lights
  • Colours appear less bright

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common cause of severe loss of eyesight among people ages 50 and up. It directly impacts central vision and while total blindness is rare, it can happen.

There are 2 types of AMD; dry AMD and wet AMD.

Dry AMD usually develops gradually without pain. Wet AMD usually comes on suddenly and worsens rapidly. Symptoms of both types can include:

  • Visual distortions, such as straight lines seeming bent
  • Reduced central vision in one/both eyes
  • Struggling to see in low light
  • Increased blurriness of printed words
  • Decreased intensity/brightness of colours
  • Difficulty recognizing faces
  • Blurry/blind spots in your field of vision
